How It All Began...

In fact paying marketing agencies leads me neatly onto the next topic before I finish.

One of the biggest complaints that I hear about is when our clients complain that they are paying ongoing SEO fees to marketing agencies.

'SEO' means search engine optimisation and loads of people we come across complain that they’re paying a small fortune in ongoing fees and they don’t really understand what they’re getting for their money.

Now I’m not suggesting that all SEO companies are fraudulent but I have to confess that the majority of ones we talk to always seem to try and be as evasive as possible about what they’re actually doing for their money.

Some companies, if they could get away with it, would have you believe that they have an entire team of NASA trained scientists working 24 hours a day on your website to keep it higher up in Google and they’re doing you a favour by just charging you anything from £50 a month to £5000 a month. The pricing is irregular.

I can promise you that, unlike chartered accountancy, there’s absolutely no regulation whatsoever in this whole industry so you need to be really, really careful that not only are you not getting ripped off but that you’re not actually harming your website rankings by using people that might be trying to cheat and use what’s known as 'black hat' techniques – which are basically trying to trick the search engines like google into giving you a better rank.

Getting better results on Google is really quite straightforward and we can show you exactly what you need to do to get your website found for your choice of key phrases.

And we’ll show you the right way to do it – so that even if you still want to outsource it, you can keep an eye on the person (or people) doing it for you and make sure that they’re doing it properly.
You know, it’s amazing how people work more diligently when they know that they’re being monitored!

Beware Bogus Search Engine Fees and Practices.

But again, why would you want to pay agency rates of up to £100 per hour when you can either do this yourself for free or get someone to do it for you for a fraction of the price. Not only that, you can actually see them coming in and make sure the work gets done.

In fact, all the feedback we received about dodgy search engine optimisation companies became such an issue, that I decided to create an entire internet marketing masterclass.

In order for your business to do well online, as I've already mentioned, there are 3 key areas to focus on and maximise where possible – that’s traffic, conversion and retention.

Briefly recapping before I come to a close about this, maximising traffic simply means getting as many relevant people as possible to come and visit your website. Maximising conversion means trying to convert as many website visitors into either email signups or leads or sales either now or in the future.

Over half the people I speak with don't even know what their conversion rate is - let alone how to improve it!

It's not hard, it's basically book keeping but if you don't know how much money is in the company till then how do you know if you're making any money or not? This is basic, basic stuff and it makes people so much more when they learn that you can only manage what you measure.

And yet this is what so many people do because they don’t know any better and because their web design company doesn't go through this basic stuff with them.

Let's look at the madness of this...

If 100 visitors go to your website and your conversion rate is 1% (which is not untypical by the way) then if we can get that conversion rate to 2 or 3 or 5% or more, we can multiply your business generated severalfold. That’s not hard to do because 99% of the people that went to your website in the first place are not signing up for whatever reason and bailing out without getting their details captured.

You can multiply your traffic by several times as well, although this often takeslonger and/or costs more money.

Silly little things added together can make all the difference.

Did you know that just putting your phone number at the top of your website can make a difference of up for 20% of your conversion rate? That’s the equivalent of giving yourself a 20% pay-rise just because you’ve put your phone number at the top, which takes 5 minutes!

(It doesn’t even necessarily mean people will ring more – it’s just that’s it been shown to increase visitor confidence and consequently more people either sign up or buy)

But that’s just one example. There are dozens of ways to increase your visitor traffic and hundreds and hundreds of ways to increase your conversion rate and once you’ve acquired a customer or client, there’s dozens of things again that you can do to ethically get them to spend more with you.

I promise you – getting higher up in Google – whilst it’s important – is only one of the things you should be doing, otherwise you’ll be leaving a fortune on the table.
