I have created quite a few weblets for my own and various other companies. By tweaking the content of each of them, I have been quite successful at getting high search engine ranking positions for high KEI phrases on Google.
Up to now I have used various WYSIWYG programs such as the one provided by www.123-reg.com. The problem with this is firstly the cost, secondly you are tied to using their website templates which don't look that great.
I created a weblet for an IT company. They were very pleased and in return they have given me very cheap access to webspace on their server. However before I go ahead and start hosting multiple weblets on this same server, I think I am right in saying that doing this usually means that they all will have the same IP address.
As we all know, one of the best (and hardest) ways to get high rankings on Google is to get lots of inbound links. The question is therefore, if I link all the sites I create on this server to each other (although they are for different industries, different websites and diffent domains) will Google detect this and penalise me.
Am I in effect creating my own mini link farm ?
One rather time consuming alternative that I came up with was to ask them to assign multiple IP addresses to the same server for me, allowing me to give each website a different IP address.
Any thoughts ? _________________ Mike Starr

| Hi Mike. In my experience, websites hosted on differnt IP addresses to the main website do seem to produce the best ranking results. I'm sure that Google can tell if websites are coming from the same IP address. I do think however that the most important things will be whether these web pages fit into Google's guidelines, and whether they contain original, and value adding content (and whether the SEO aspects are sound). I know of several customers who each have several websites, all linked together, and for some searches it's not unusual for them to achieve rankings on the same page of search engine results for the same query with pages from their different websites. It doesn't seem to have harmed them too much that they're all linked together. |
