|
|
I have added 3 posts onto Wordpress blog, however having looked at the site explorer on yahoo to find out my website links no link is from my wordpress pages.
Also how do I use the category section, do I just add new categories myself as I don't see how I can choose a list of existing categories that may already exisit?
Finally how do I use the post tag section, do I use this in a similar way to the category section?
Thanks

Hi Colin. Yes, I've yet to see a link from a Wordpres blog show up as an incoming link. The advantage with this particular type of blog however is how well and how quickly the articles you post can show up in a high ranking pasition in the search engine results. Think of it more as another, very dynamic, website, but a website that ranks much more quickly.
Yes, you write your own catergries in Wordpress. It's a good idea to use important key phrases in the categories. If your version of Wordpress blog has the same layout as mine, there should be a field on the bottom right of the page (when you're writing a new article) which allows you to crete a new category name of the article, or use a tickbox to select a category for it from the ones you've prevously created.
You can use the tags within the bog for more customisation. Here's a page of information I found about it within the Help section of Wordpress. |

Thanks,
However should there be a link to the information you referred to?

| Hi Colin. I always put links in my Wordpress blog articles to pages in the main website, and where particularly relevant, I put links in the main website page to a specific blog article. As a source of high quality incoming links to your website which contribute to a greater PageRank, there doesn't seem to be any physical evidence (e.g. showing up as links in Yahoo) that this takes place. Google however says that it basically treats all links in the same way wherever they're from. This basically means that they'll be subject to the same algorithmic examination to see how much or how little 'quality' they have as a link. I tend to see Blogs now as another way to get your content on the Web, and another chance to generate interest in your main website, and perhaps to generate enquiries directly from the blog. With Google's change to its new 'Caffeine' indexing system, things like blog posts should in theory pick up quickly and if they're relvant enough to search queries, have a good chance of featuring prominently in the search engine results I hope. |
